As I step into my interview, I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the groundbreaking milestone achieved by HousingWorks Cannabis Co. in New York City. On December 29, 2022, they marked history by becoming the first legal cannabis dispensary in the Empire State, opening their doors to eager customers. It’s remarkable to see this progress, albeit it begs the question: why did it take so long for the state to establish regulatory frameworks, issue licenses, and implement industry standards? These are inquiries I intend to delve into shortly.
During this incubation period for legal cannabis, the “gray” market has flourished, with unofficial storefronts, consumption lounges, and even mobile operations popping up across New York City. It’s a dynamic landscape that highlights the complexities of cannabis regulation.
In the coming months, I’ll be dedicating a segment to New York’s cannabis evolution, aligning with my broader objective of covering every adult-use state in 2023.
Now, turning to my interview with Jorge Olson, the co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer of Hempacco Co., a prominent player in the hemp rolling papers and cigarettes market. Hailing from San Diego with roots in Tijuana, Mexico, Olson shares his journey from fast-moving consumer goods sales to the cannabis industry.
